Driver error can easily lead to serious car accidents

Driving, using public transportation or otherwise being on the road is an activity that is unavoidable for many Ohio residents. You and many other people have places you need to be on a daily basis, and often, it is the roadways that help get you there. Of course, whether you are driving or are a passenger, you know that an accident could occur at any moment.

Unfortunately, both experienced and inexperienced drivers can make any number of mistakes while behind the wheel. Even if individuals know that they should not carry out a certain action, such as checking a cellphone, they may do it anyway with a complete disregard for the risk at which they are putting themselves and others.

Mistakes of many

Some driving mistakes happen more often than others, and you may be guilty of a few yourself. While you may not have to chastise yourself at length for going over the speed limit or not using a turn signal in the past, you may want to remember that such actions could one day lead to a car accident. In addition to speeding and unpredictable driving, the following mistakes also put travelers at serious risk:

  • Distracted driving: This issue becomes more prominent every day as distractions surround drivers at all times, and giving in to those distractions can and has caused many accidents.
  • Drowsy driving: You and many others may not think much about getting behind the wheel in the morning and yawning while doing so. However, drowsy driving can be just as dangerous as drunk driving.
  • Tailgating: Driving too closely to a vehicle in front of you, or even someone driving too closely to your rear, can quickly cause an accident.
  • Too many people in the vehicle: Having too many passengers or raucous passengers can easily distract a driver. Additionally, new drivers cannot have more than one non-family passenger in their vehicles under Ohio law.

Of course, the possible mistakes that drivers can make do not end there, and you could end up the victim of a serious accident caused by another driver's error. If so, you may need to review what caused the accident and whether you may have reason to file a personal injury claim against the driver considered at fault. This type of civil claim could allow you to pursue compensation for allowable damages.
